Gertie is an emu who came to us from a shelter with her buddy, Tulip, a goat with an infectious and perpetual smile. Gertie is super friendly and curious... especially if you're wearing something shiny. She will gently peck at your jewelry, purse, buttons, etc.
When people come to visit PPI, they're often intimidated by her raptor-like appearance and her guttural drumming sounds, but she is harmless. Not all emus are as friendly as Gertie; she's one of a kind. We adore her and so does our PPI family, and they love seeing our “Gert ALERT” posts on Facebook. She's comical and lovable – and she'll be a permanent family member at Pet Place International.
